Jennifer Garner was born on the 17th of April, 1972 at Houston, Texas but was raised within Charleston, West Virginia. William John Garner served as engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local school. She earned a degree in chemical engineering to emulate her father. She moved to New York in order to follow her dreams as an actor. In addition to appearing in Broadway productions, she worked as a server at a nearby restaurant. Her first husband Scott Foley met her on the show "Felicity," where she played a cameo. She got her big break in the action thriller "Alias." Her first lead role was in the highly acclaimed romance "13 Going on 30." The film starred her as a teenager who found herself trapped in the body of the 30-year-old. Garner decided to choose Gary Winick to direct the film; they kept looking for new projects together until his passing away in the year 2011. Garner was named an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. This role involves the promotion of nutrition and literacy in the US, as well as early elementary education. Garner is a board member of this non-profit organization since the year 2014. She promotes early childhood education. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with the families who are part of Early Steps to School Success, a program that coaches parents on ways to support young children to learn.
